This is for business chat :) . It will be interesting to get other perspectives. As long as it doesn't turn into a spam fest. You didn't answer your own question. Why did you pick yours? I personally dabble in several online ventures but, I only choose to promote 2 here. Some of you have asked me why- the answer is simple, when I started online many years ago- I noticed that many ad forums were just that, places to slam an ad. And most of the admins were guilty of this too. They would start a forum in order just to promote their programs- which didn't ring true with me. There was one in particular that made me want to start a forum of my own... I went to post at this forum and it showed 20 topics per page- the admin had stickied 18 posts of his own programs. I laughed to myself and left promptly. So I just promote a couple free ones here. They pay me for my time that I invest here. That is why I don't appreciate others flooding my site with the two programs. It doesn't make good business sense and there are many other ways to have your free ad seen. So you could say that main interest is this forum right now. But, to answer the original question of why I pick and promote certain programs is because once promoted they run themselves. I have no monthly fees or quotas. And this gives me the freedom to search out other programs that fit this description. I will be looking for your answer to this question. Buddy

As I'm here, I'll throw in my two groats...

I chose affiliate marketing as one source of income and to give me a foot in the door of the Internet Marketing community. My main site does just that, as well as give away a load of free information to tempt interested visitors to the site. My other site has been doing rather badly - I'm also a qualified hypnotherapist so I put up a site to sell self-help CDs.

That should have done reasonably well, but I've noticed that there seems to be much more interest these days in downloadable files rather than people wait for something to turn up in their old fashioned mailbox.

To move thses huge .wav files to smaller MP3 for download still results in very large files (the audio is over half an hour and no way to split it up into smaller files). That's ok for someone with a fast internet connection, but something like over half of all internet users still have dial-up, so it's a non-starter for them.

In any case, I'm busy converting to MP3 and hope that will breath new life into that site.

I'm building a new website at the moment which will carry on the affiliate marketing idea into a different niche. The master plan here is to set up an army of affiliate sites and conquer the world... well a few sites, anyway to try and boost my income from affiliate products and advertising. We shall see...

But I think your original question was WHY???

I moved to southern Spain from the UK 5 years ago and to be honest, finding a real job here has been difficult to say the least. The average pay for even good jobs is close to the poverty line, so with my IT experience it was really a no brainer to move that knowledge and expertise online. If only my business accumen was better...

Sat Apr 14, 2007 7:14 pm   Diabetes,stroke,and blindness

Hi,
You are correct Buddy I did not answer my own question.
I am at home and I wanted to have an opportunity to
talk to other people, who were home too.I read alot of
what others are saying and I thought that if I could make
friends,so when I saw an opportunity to promote a health
product I took it.I first wanted to take the products and I
did,and it did what it proclaimed to be.

My mother had two strokes last year ,and it left her blind
in one eye.Taking care of her left me feeling helpless to
help her. All the information that I could read was important
to me,I read everything about caring for her, meals for her,
cooking, bathing, medicine, the reason for the stroke how I
could help understand what she is going through. This also
educated me.If nothing more this product not only got my
vote but helped educate me to help my mother, myself and
my children.

Now I feel that if someone were to ask me how to help them
understand this illness I know this would be something I could
feel confident helping them understand

By the way I did not say that My Mother had two strokes while
dealing with diabetes, heart disease, and now blindness in one eye.

Thank you

I always enjoy reading about why people choose the biz they are in!

Here's mine:

I honestly wanted to find a way to stay home with my kids and not have to be in a 9-5 job anymore. I had searched for a couple years but did not come up with anything that I felt a connection to. Two years ago, I got laid off from my managment job. Where we live, it is very hard to be a family of four on an income of one working parent. So I had to make a choice: get a new job where I would be away from my kids and leaving them to my sister-in-law, or find a work at home job opportunity so I can stay home with my kids. I feel I was lucky to find something so soon after being laid off. Unfortunately, I became lax and didnt' work on the biz, but continued to shop as a customer. Now, I am re-discovering the real reason I chose my main biz: helping people to reach thier goals. Now I actually am starting to reach some of my own goals by helping others, and it feels pretty darn good! I am now able to serve on the school PTA board, chair a few events for the school, be the Cub Master of my son's Cub Scout Pack, and most importantly, BE WITH MY KIDS!!

I noticed that we are in similar business'. Isn't it wonderful to share a product with someone and then have them tell you later how much that has changed thier life? I often get light headed when I get those calls! I just want to cry with joy for that person, knowing that I've helped thier life get better just by introducing them to something so seemingly insignificant! :D

Thu Apr 19, 2007 10:07 am   Love what I do

Jada,

That's a really good question, and I look forward to seeing what members have to say.

As for me, I was looking for something that I'm passionate about. I work a full time job during the day, but lately it hasn't been very exciting. So I started thinking about what it is I like to do and what my passions are. The first things that came to mind stuck and that's the direction I'm taking.

I always loved any activity where I can be creative. So I have had a lot of fun building my website. And of course, I wanted to build a business around something that is important to me. That would be animals. I have two cats (Bill & Ted, named for their excellent adventures). I love my two boys to death and they are really life enriching little critters who make me laugh every day. I thought about how happy it makes me that they are happy and healthy. Being cats, they love to snuggle in their favorite places around the house (when they're not playing), so I thought of pet beds being a good business to be in. I know a lot of people who have dogs and cats who toss towels and blankets around the house for their pets to lie on. I thought, why not have something decent looking in the house instead of old blankets.

Anyway, the business is growing from those original thoughts. My customers love the products, and I have some of the beds in my house for Bill and Ted too! I told they get to be guinea pig product testers.

I'm always interested in the creative process and what leads people to do what they do, so thank you Jada, for asking this great question.

Why I Chose A Home Business

I wanted a home business mainly because I had reached the age where to look for a new job was a "not happening" situation...They can say what they like and try to word it not to look so, but the bottom line is...it will be the "sweet young thing" that gets the job, regardless of ability and crendetials...I personally witnessed this so much, it became very discouraging....
I searched for over 6 months before I found the thing that had the qualities I was looking for ( I had a very definite criteria)Never did I dream there was something out there where I could do what I do on a regular basis all the time and still make extra income!! Plus fitting all my stiff requirements..... I DID and the result is a "win-win" situation for me...so now I'm a work at home Mom/Grandmom/Great Grandmom!! My only regret is that I couldn't have had this when my children were still at home and I had to leave them to work in the public.. But I am so happy for the younger ones with us...some have already accomplished being able to stay at home with their families and some preparing to do so...
Other than my home business, I love to read, sew, bowl, ride my bike and spoil my grandkids...

Thanks for listening!

Fri May 04, 2007 11:13 am   Why I chose my Business

Hi everyone,
What an awesome question! I chose to work from home because I was injured at work, and it is so much harder to change careers when you are older.
I did not know what I was going to do as we still need our second income. One day I was at the computer and just said, "Oh Lord (we are quite close), please show me something I can do from home." I can honestly say that it was within a couple of minutes, that I heard that sound that says you have mail. It was a newsletter I had subscribed to months previously. As I read it, there was a little blurb in it, that said they had checked out this home-based business and recommended it. I truly valued the recommendation of the writer of the newsletter, and after going to the site, I just bowed my head in my hands and cried. I knew it was an answer to prayer and I have been involved with it ever since. My mission is to touch and change peoples' lives, with humility and honesty, so that they too can enjoy, what that they thought would never be possible. My business has allowed me to grow in ways I never thought possible.
So that is my "Why."
I hope you are all successful in whatever business you are in!
May your day be filled with love, joy and peace.

I chose the home-based business that I'm in because it had everything I was looking for to legitimately give me a fighting chance to realistically make some money. There's no BS involved. This is not for tire-kickers. Either you're serious about building a business, or you're not.

I started working my business because I wanted a way to be able to set my own hours and be here for my family when they needed me. I always seem to somehow take on a lot and not have time for things that I want to do. I have always been interested in pure and safe products to use to replace the ones that have "stuff" in them that most people have never heard of and when I found Arbonne it seemed to fit perfect with what I was looking for and has been wonderful all the way. I also have always wanted to get into real estate, but it cost so much to get started and I wanted a company where I could have to make that extra needed money to get started and still go beyond that. I am now into the real estate business and with Arbonne.
